Polynesian origins of the name. The stylist tells us.
Polynesia, a journey that changes you forever. At least that's how it was for me and my husband. Life is peaceful, light years away from the frenzy of the West. The added value is the people, it is thanks to them that these places are still uncontaminated. Every single moment of the day is dedicated to appreciating the nature that surrounds them and to cultivating the purest feelings of friendship and love with other people.
One day while walking along the beach on the island of Rangiroa we came across a young woman crying in despair as she looked at the sea. We stopped to try to understand what was happening and if help was needed, and Amana, as the girl was called, let us know that she was sad because she was far from her loved one. A few minutes later, some young islanders arrived and gave her a necklace made from local shells and bark, encouraging her and inviting us to share carefree moments together in front of a bonfire.
They told us that it was a tradition for ancient Polynesian peoples to make gifts by hand from elements taken from local nature. They were symbols of love, friendship and sharing. Legend has it that the spirit of the creator was absorbed into the gift so that it could be transferred to the person who received it as a gift. These gifts were called Lei.
